Earlier today I plugged in Swedish melodic death metal band, Skyfire’s 2004 album “Spectral” on the recommendation of a friend. Upon first hearing the album, I couldn't really pick out anything all that special or that stood out enough to set the band apart from the plethora of melodic death acts that come to us from across the ocean every day. However, I found the more attention I payed the music the more it gave back to me.
“Spectral” is not the kind of album to listen to half heartedly in the background; the album demands your attention and as soon as you give it, you will find your ears have stumbled upon an audible gemstone. “Spectral’s” towering highs and commanding orchestral breakdowns make me giddy like my virgin listen of Dark Tranquillity. Do yourself a favor and don't discount this bands ability to make solid melodic death. For those of you that cant get enough , Skyfire has five albums out now, and a sixth (Esoteric) due out October 13th in the US. Here is “Cursed by Belief” the fourth track on “Spectral”.
